An introductory text is augmented by an annotated bibliography of approximately 100 of the most important "understandable" books, studies, and articles on the subject.

The bibliographic entries further discuss such issues as:

• brain death;
• AIDS and transplantation;
• anencephalic infants;
• fetal tissue;
• organ marketing; and
• the emotional feelings of and psychological impact on both donor and recipient as well as other persons close to them.

Substantive annotations convey much information contained in the original sources. While these summaries may well meet the information needs of a reader, they also provide a precise guide to the literature for persons who seek more information on specific topics.
